Import your employees
Bring a whole workforce in from a spreadsheet: the template, the dry run, the review, and the accounts step.
Start from the template
People → Employees → Import employees, then download the template as CSV or XLSX. One row per person. Dates are read in either order, so 31.12.2026 and 2026-12-31 both work.
Keep the column headers as they are. Anything you cannot fill in yet can stay empty if it is not required, and you can edit a record after the import like any other.
Upload and check the file
Drag the file in, or click to browse. CSV or XLSX, up to 10 MB. Check file runs the whole import without writing anything, which is what makes it safe to try.
- Create missing departments: department names in the file that do not exist yet are created before anybody is added. Leave it off and those rows come back as errors instead.
Read the review
The check returns four numbers: rows in the file, rows ready to import, rows with errors, and warnings. A warning still imports. An error does not.
- Fix it in the table: the rows are editable here. Editing re-checks the file, which is faster than going back to the spreadsheet.
- Download errors as CSV: for when it is easier to fix a hundred rows in the spreadsheet after all.
- Import valid rows only: skips the rows with errors and brings in the rest. The skipped rows are counted on the last screen.
Which account each person logs in with
Where an email in the file matches somebody who already logs into your workspace, that row is connected to their account instead of creating a stranger. The accounts step shows every match so you can change it, and lets you pick an account for anybody it missed.
Import, and what happens after
The last screen counts what was created and what was skipped. Everybody imported is a normal employee record from that moment: they appear in the directory, in the org chart once a manager is set, and in reports.
Balances open for everybody a leave policy covers. The first-year entitlement is asked once for the whole batch, and you can change it per person afterwards from Balances.
The errors you will actually see
- A required value is missing: name, position, start date or contract type.
- The date could not be read: usually a cell the spreadsheet turned into text or a serial number.
- The department does not exist: turn on creating missing departments, or fix the spelling.
- This person already exists: they are already in your workforce, or the same person appears twice in the file.
- The value is not one of the allowed options: contract type, employment type or work mode written differently from the template's list.
